• Aces

  • Purpose

Designed to get a player free for a lob behind the defense.

  • Drill Setup

1 is on top. 2 and 3 are stacked at the free throw line. 4 and 5 are stacked at the bottom of the lane.

  • How It Works

    1. 1 dribbles to the wing. 2 flashes to the top of the key. 3 goes to the opposite wing.
    2. 4 back screens the middle man of the zone and 5 cuts to the basket.
    3. 1 passes to 2 who passes to 5 for the shot.
    4. Option 2: If 5 is covered, 2 can pass to 3 who has moved to the corner for the jump shot.
    5. Option 3: If 3 doesn’t have the shot, he can look for 5 posting up (4 goes to the weak side).
    6. Option 4: 2 can fake the pass to 3 and pass to 1 in the opposite corner for the jump shot.

5 looks to get open for a lob off a screen from 4.

  • Coaching Tips

This play can be used against any type of zone, including 2-3 and 1-3-1.

If the zone is a 3-2, 4 would screen the bottom side defender instead of the middle man.
