• 1 Ball Moving Drill

  • Purpose

Players practice dribbling with one ball.

  • Drill Setup

Players line up along the baseline with a basketball. Place cones for the players at the free throw line extended.

  • How It Works

Players dribble from the baseline to the halfcourt line with their right hand and dribble back from the halfcourt line to the baseline with their left.

    • Phase 1: Players dribble forward, hesitate at the cone and then dribble the rest of
      the way.
    • Phase 2: Players slide, slide again and then take off.
    • Phase 3: Players perform a crossover dribble at the cone.
    • Phase 4: Players perform an inside-out move at the cone – they lean in and then break back out keeping the basketball in the same hand.
    • Phase 5: Players dribble between the legs at the cone.

Players execute moves while dribbling with one ball.

  • Coaching Tips

Players should be dribbling with their opposite arm up as if warding off an imaginary defender.

Dribblers should be keeping the ball low.

On the inside-out move, the hand should be kept on top of the ball to avoid a palming violation.

When dribbling between the legs, players have to slow down to execute the move.
