• Simon Says Footwork Drill

  • Purpose

Teaches players the important skill of pivoting

  • Drill Setup

Players set up with plenty of space between them in the halfcourt. Coach stands at the halfcourt line.

  • How It Works

    1. Players hold an imaginary basketball and get in a triple-threat position.
    2. Coach tells them which foot to pivot on and which direction to pivot. A front pivot means their chest goes first, a reverse pivot means their butt goes first.
    3. Coach speeds up the calls. Players who mess up sit down and are out of the game.
    4. Continue until one player is left.

Coach calls out different pivots for his players to execute.

  • Coaching Tips

When players pivot their head should stay level and they must remain balanced.

All pivots should be 180 degrees.
