Circle Box Out Drill
Purpose
Stresses blocking out for defensive rebounds.
Drill Setup
A ball is placed in the middle of the free throw line. A defender is in the circle. An offensive player is outside it.
How It Works
- Coach yells “shot” and the defender turns and blocks out the offensive player and tries to keep him from getting the basketball.
- Players continue until the coach says “stop.”

The defender aims to keep the offensive player from the ball.
Coaching Tips
The defender should have his knees bent to create a solid base and his arms up and out to create a wide base.
Defender should stay pressed against the offensive player at all times – he should not ever let a gap form.
